Ethernet fibre optic and copper RJ45 installation extension

Energy management is in the news. Our Networks team recently visited one of the world's leading technology and digital transformation companies, which is working to build a sustainable energy future for all.

Customer challenge

In order to meet the growing demand for Ethernet connections, our customer wanted to standardise and extend their fibre optic and copper RJ45 Ethernet installation.
The main challenge was to successfully cover the entire site with RJ45 structured cabling, while the number of consumers (RJ45 Ethernet sockets) and their exact locations were not yet known with certainty.
On the other hand, it was necessary to deploy this new network while keeping production running and not disturbing the site staff.

Solution implemented by our teams

Our teams carried out the entire study and deployment of the passive F.O. and copper RJ45 network architecture.

This study, carried out in close collaboration with the client, was based on a global quantity of RJ45 connections distributed by sector: 600 connections spread over an area of approximately 6500m².

Some key figures for this project:

460 hours of studies and monitoring of site work
  • Study and design of the network architecture
  • Study and production of a layout plan for the RJ45 zone boxes
  • Study and production of layout plans for new network cabinets
  • Sizing of the new cable trays
  • Creation of a standard label with location information for each RJ45 zone box and connector.
  • Drafting of test reports for fibre optic and copper certifications
160 hours of CAD (Computer Aided Design)
  • Creation of the layout plan for the RJ45 consolidation boxes
  • Creation of the electrical and DATA plans for the new cabinets
  • Creation of the DATA cable list
2900 hours of site work
  • Creation of 3 new 19″ DATA cabinets, equipped with UPS.
  • Installation of 1000 metres of new cable trays.
  • Installationof 1300 metres of single-mode fibre optic cable, divided into 7 separate segments.
  • Installation of 30,000 metres of RJ45 Cat7a SFTP 1500MHz cable.
  • Installation of 384 fibre optic connections
  • Installation of 120 RJ45 consolidation boxes
  • Connection of 1200 RJ45 Cat6A SFTP connectors
  • Deployment of 23 WIFI access points
  • Validation tests of fibre optic and copper segments according to ISO/IEC 11801 Class Ea standards

Gain for the customer

The technical solution proposed, combined with the use of RJ45 consolidation boxes, allows for modularity and flexible management of structured cabling.

We were able to deploy 600 RJ45 connection points throughout the factory, without knowing the exact location of the end users and without disturbing the production units that were still in operation, to the customer’s great satisfaction.
